TGA Xcel Team Program
Traditionally in the sport of gymnastics, young athletes and their families decide to dedicate their lives to this sport. Practice hours for competitive gymnastics usually start with about 12 hours per week and progress up to 40 hours per week for the highest level gymnasts. Several years ago, a few states created a recreational competitive gymnastics program that allowed gymnasts to participate in gymnastics without dedicating their entire lives to the sport. These programs were so successful that USA Gymnastics started the XCEL Program.
Although the Xcel Program is not as intense as the traditional USAG Level Program, there are many benefits. The sport itself requires TOTAL body strength, balance, flexibility, poise, and body awareness. Being a part of a competitive team encourages goal setting, sportsmanship, and teamwork.
Our Xcel team is broken down into 4 levels - Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. The rate at which girls progress through levels varies depending on the gymnast. Girls can expect to spend 1-2 years at each of the Bronze and Silver levels, but many will spend 3 or more years at Gold before moving into Platinum.
Athletes enrolled in the TGA Xcel Program practice year-round for 6-9 hours per week (2-3 days). Our highest level gymnasts practice 12 hours per week (4 days). Our Xcel competition season starts in January and finishes in May with the home meet or state competition. Typically, the girls compete in roughly one meet per month.
Enrollment in the Xcel Program is by invitation only. For more information, please email us at info@tidewatergymnasticsacademy.com
